The cafeteria. Full of students of the academy running this way and that with food, trying to finish it all before the hour ended. While this was the general image, there were some who stood out from the crowd, and namely, these were the people who were performing this action rather disgustingly. On the left end of the room, second table from the door, there was a student a little on the bigger side who had the remains of what had been a hamburger smeared across his face and down his shirt. The whole picture made Gage want to gag, but he tried to hold down what he'd eaten this morning as he made his way across the room.
To his immediate right where the handful of girls that sat next to him in his English class. However, given they had vaginas, Gage had no interest in flirting with any of them. So, he moved on. Next up, on the left this time, was a small boy that he remembered accidentally mistaking for a female the first time he'd seen him when he transferred here. He sort of felt bad for thinking that, but the boy was kinda small. In any case, he had never really gotten the chance to ever talk to the kid, mainly because he was always attached to his Fighter. It was surprising, really, to see Avery by himself.
With a small, playful smirk and a twitch of the ears, the red-head grabbed a small piece of candy out of his bag and strategically tied a thin string around the center. Was it weird that Gage knew the boy liked candy? Whatever, as far as he was concerned, it was common knowledge. Leaning almost all the way over the boy sitting alone at the lunch table, Gage dangled the small treat in front of the boy's face.

Where is your boy tonight?
Small boy had practically recoiled into his hoodie, feeling rather nervous without Skylar practically attached to his side. Poor kid really didn't know how to act without him, having been basically attached to his Fighter since sixth grade, after all, they were a team. He shouldn't have needed to be without him, now should he have? Oh, the poor child was just obsessed. Poor thing.
No food sat in front of Avery, and there was an empty spot beside him, though by now, everyone must have known that it was reserved. It was for Skylar, who seemed to have been running a tad bit late today getting to that...either that or he had somewhere better to be, and Avery had been thrown to the wolves, not that Avery would ever accuse him of such a thing. The taller fighter could do no wrong.
Tawny ears flicked to the side slightly, nervously, before a sigh left the boy's mouth. So, he's not coming today I guess? There'd be a visible slump of the shoulders and an audible sigh, a show of complete disappointmen- Candy!?
All signs of sadness fled, and ears perked up happily on top of the boy's head. Green eyes seemed to glimmer, and canine-esque tail wagged slightly behind him. Near instantly, hand shot out and attempted to wrap around the small sugary thing. Well, someone was either easily distracted, or candy healed all wounds. In Avery's case? It was most likely both.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

As soon as the ears perked up and tail began to wag, Gage knew he'd caught the smaller boy's attention. This proved to be true when Avery's hand shot out to grab the dangling treat, and on impulse, the man hovering above him pulled it up and out of reach. Until the former's hand dropped back down, the candy wouldn't be moving. Gage snickered quietly to himself, watching the scene unfold before him. He could feel the gaze of a couple of the nearby students watching the two of them, but it only fueled the fire. Slowly, but surely, he lowered the candy back down and up again, before popping it up and catching it in his hand entirely.
With an even larger smirk than before, Gage planted himself into Skylar's obviously reserved seat and half-assedly crossed his legs. He leaned his chin on his propped-up arm as he watched the boy's facial features. He held his hand out and sitting in the palm of his hand was the tiny, pink-wrapped, piece of candy. During the brief movement he went from standing to sitting, the string had somehow magically vanished from sight.
"Hey there," he purred, his long, slender tail flicking about behind him as he watched the smaller boy. His voice was smooth and carried an almost seductive tone. "Mind if I sit here?" He gave a soft chuckle. Of course he didn't mind if Gage sat here, who would? With a mental shrug, the man waited for the boy's answer anyway, his seemingly-unblinking orbs staring into green ones.

Where is your boy tonight?
A look of complete confusion marked Avery's face as the candy shot out of reach, and frustration seemed to fuel his actions. Boy tried to reach his hand up higher to grab it, but to no avail. Stubborn creature just wanted the damn piece of candy. Hell, he could deal without his Fighter sitting next to him at the moment if he could have it, but no. The world was just against him today, now wasn't it?
Ears would pin against the teenager's head, and he'd grimace at the carnation-colored sweet, hand falling to his side. Kid would put on a rather pissed off looking pout, and then crossed his arms. If Skylar was here, he'd give me the candy.
Hand would reach up again in an attempt to grab the unknown candy, but of course, the hovering treat would flee from sight at the smallest of movements, and the kid once again was outsmarted by a lump of brightly colored sugar. I bet it tasted terrible anyhow.
In his pouting, the kid didn't seem to notice the taller boy sitting beside him, and jumped at the sound of his voice. Head turned, and eyes narrowed slightly, almost upset. "That's for...But..." The weak argument died at the sight of the candy, "How did you...?" Avery was seeming to have a bit of trouble with his words today now, wasn't he?
Ears would stay pinned against his head, though his expression seemed to have softened at the sight of the candy. Eyes were locked on the sweet, and tail wriggled slightly behind him at it's presence. Maybe he'll share? In truth, Ave seemed entirely blind to the flirtatious tone in the other boy's voice. Instead, the entirety of his attention was focused on the candy. He was just so child-like, the kid was.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

Without really thinking, Gage flipped his hand and dropped the sweet into the younger boy's hand. After giving another chuckle, he couldn't help but to grin down at the younger boy. He reached his hand up and cupped Avery's chin, pulling the boy's face closer to his own. "How cute you are, kitten," he purred, inspecting every inch of Avery's face. Green eyes were the first thing Gage really took an interest in, mainly because they bore such a stark contrast to his skin tone. This was the first time he'd really gotten to see him up close -- he never really got near him whenever Skylar was around. As far as he knew, Avery was the type to have a one-track mind whenever his Fighter was nearby. In fact, it did strike Gage as odd that the snowy-haired man wasn't actually here.
Again, without thinking, Gage opened his mouth. "So where is your boytoy? Sneaking around with someone else?" It was the first thing he thought of, mainly because he was trying to make himself look better for being here when Avery's Fighter had abandoned him for something else. "I have to admit, Im surprised you aren't attached at the hip. What's it like having your other half, anyway?" he pondered, not knowing the feeling himself. He knew eventually he had to run into his Sacrifice, even if he was seventy years old before it happened. It was inevitable, wasn't it? He surely hoped so.
Gage could read the expression on Avery's face when he'd taken Skylar's seat, but he didn't really care. The boy would live if someone else's ass occupied the seat for ten minutes. If not, then, well, that was just plain old sad. Gage couldn't imagine a life where he had to be romantically tied to one person forever, but it was still something he thought about on occasion. Unless his sacrifice was a male, he was sure he was going to be spending quite some time trying to find the right guy. Of course, even his other half wasn't guaranteed his lifetime love. What if they didn't get along? That was always something that came up in Gage's mind when he thought about it -- what if his Sacrifice hated him? He didn't know if he'd be able to handle such rejection.
Snapping out of his momentary reverie, Gage blinked a few times before focusing his attention back on Avery. That was a thought for a different time.

Where is your boy tonight?
A look of genuine glee covered Avery's face as he got the candy, and near instantly he set to unwrapping and attempting to devour the piece of candy. Damn! It was hard, and as a result, he couldn't just chomp it down. Oh well, he was fine with just letting the sugar melt in his mouth...but he wasn't fine with being manhandled.
Ears would pin themselves against his head, and Avery'd stiffen as he was inspected by the older guy, "...Um, thanks?" Now that wasn't at all an uncomfortable thing to say, now was it? See the sarcasm? Because it's there.
Those canine-like ears would just flatten themselves on Avery's pale brown hair at the mention of Skylar being his boytoy. "It's not like that...And...and he wouldn't!" Way to piss off the midget; just tell him Skylar ditched him for someone else. That was sure to cause quite a bit of emotional trauma.
Avery, being entirely dependent on Skylar's existence, no matter how much of an indifferent asshole his Fighter was, couldn't imagine spending even a day without his closest friend, and most trusted allie. That would just be hell to the kid. He already had trouble imagining just a few hours without basically hanging off of Skylar, but now this guy had to mention himself being entirely ditched for someone else? Way to break the poor boy.
Avery'd recoil from the hand, pulling into his hoodie slightly, surely upset, but still listening to the strange red-haired stranger as he did so. Even if he'd rather upset him, it didn't mean that Avery'd be a total dick and ignore him. Even Avery was more mature than that.
"It's...different, having Skylar. It's...better. I don't really know how to describe it, just, it's different. A good kind of different though." It was the best kind of friendship and the closest thing to a relationship Avery had ever had; the amount of trust, of care between the two. No matter how irritating Skylar could be, Avery trusted him with every fiber of his being. He could not think of another person he'd rather be around, or talk to, or have to spend any amount of time with. A world without Skylar was dark, and bleak, and meaningless. Avery was entirely devoted.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

Gage watched as Avery made an attempt to chew on a hard candy, and blinked in surprise. Had the kid been under the impression that it was a gummy? It was wrapped in the obvious fashion that a hard candy was usually wrapped in. Maybe Avery was just a little slow? The idea had the red-head laughing again, although this time it was more realistic, not the usual mocking tone his snickers took on. He tilted his head as he continued watching the expressions dance across Avery's face -- excitement, to disappointment (maybe because he realized the candy was hard), to something between being upset and mad.
The Fighter merely chuckled at the boy's awkward response, knowing he'd probably get that reaction from him anyway. Avery was small and fragile without his big Fighter glued to his side, so he assumed that confrontation would end negatively. Besides, he couldn't help but to point out the obvious, though. The kid simply was cute. "How are you so sure he wouldn't do that? Do you even know where he is right now?" This was sure to spark some kind of tension but couldn't help but to bust his balls just a little bit.
When he felt Avery pull away from his grasp, he let his arm drop casually into his lap. the corners of his mouth turned up into a grin as he watched the look of what seemed like horror flash across the small boy's face. But it soon disappeared when he started rambling on about how it was being with Skylar. Different but a good different, or some shit. Gage didn't really understand the feeling, given he hadn't met his Sacrifice yet, so this was all a load of shit to him. "Yeah, yeah, sure. I don't understand how you've completely sold your soul to him already." He gave a light, devious chuckle that matched the look that was plastered on his face.

Where is your boy tonight?
Skylar'd be here any minute...He would, and that would be that. This nameless tormentor would move, for no one'd piss with the stoic Fighter, and Avery wouldn't feel so abandoned any more. The kid would nervously flick his ear, and just keep hoping, of course, he couldn't help but have a sinking feeling. There was doubt nestled in his mind.
"He wouldn't do that to me because he's my fighter. We're a team." That fact seemed to make it all better; it made it true in Avery's mind that Skylar was forever dedicated to Avery, and that he'd always be there for him. Being a team was a forever thing, and not only that, but it was an important thing to both of them. It bonded them forever in a way that Avery couldn't describe.
"S'not my fault you're all alone." A slightly aggressive tone would be taken, "How long have you been here without anyone? I have my Fighter, I've had 'im since sixth grade, but where's your team mate? What, are you a Blank; a replacement part?" There were a lot worse things that someone could say, but in Avery's mind, being without a partner, without having a true connection to anyone was the most terrible thing that could ever occur. He felt pity for the mundane folks, moving through life without ever being able to find their true match, the one person who was born for them.
It was always easy to tell who didn't have a partner yet, merely for the fact that they were never around their team mate. Instead, they wandered the halls alone, or sat in groups next to other paired up people, mostly just waiting. How could you be in a school full of people with a true connection and not see what it was like to be able to trust someone in such a way? It ran deeper than blood ties, in Avery's mind.
After his miniature rant, the kid would pull even farther away from the older guy. The extent of his ways of communicating rage seemed to be talking. All bark and no bite. Was it really possible to pull a punch from Avery? It seemed rather unlikely at this point.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

Gage couldn't help but to laugh at how badly Avery was taking this entire conversation. Was he really that protective over his damn Fighter? The red-head couldn't grasp the concept, but since this little kid seemed so adamant on believing what he was saying, Gage decided to let it go. Before he got a chance to tell Avery he'd been kidding around the whole time, the latter went into a mini rant about how Gage was alone.
"Ouch," Gage commented, cracking up a bit. "You're got a not-so-nice little temper, don't you? I've been joking around with you this whole time. I honestly doubted that you were freaking abandoned." He placed his hand on the boy's head and ruffled his hair up. "Lighten up, kid." Gage was surprised that Avery didn't know he was joking. That's what Gage was known for in this damn school -- being a no-good, trouble-making prankster. Had word not gotten to him about the red-head? That seemed strange.
Oh, you know, maybe it was because Gage hadn't told the kid his fucking name yet. "By the way, the name's Gage Reinhart. Sorry, kinda forgot about it. I just assume everyone knows who I am already." Well, that was cocky. Guess it fits though, considering Gage is a cocky bastard. But hey, at least he's good-looking.

Where is your boy tonight?
Ears would slowly, almost cautiously rise from the kid's head, and his cranium shifted slightly to the side like that of a confused mutt. Huh? Someone apparently wasn't in on the joke. "...Oh." Voice trailed off slightly; awkwardly, and he gave the other boy an awkward, embarrassed smile.
Even so, he couldn't help but feel a bit irritated at being laughed at, but Avery decided to try and get over himself. The other had just been joking after all, no need to get pissy. The comment on his temper seemed rather rhetorical, and due to this, didn't get a response. No need to come up with one for something of the sort.
The name of his former harasser was stored within his memory, and he decided to give the other his name, "I'm Avery, and my Fighter's Skylar." Might as well introduce the two at once, after all, they were a team; they were two halves to one unit. As far as Avery was concerned, they may as well have been one person.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

Gage gave a whole-hearted laugh when the small word 'oh' was the only response he got back. He was seriously entertained right now, especially because the kid looked really awkward and somewhat embarrassed. Maybe he went a bit too far this time, but at least Avery was taking the prank better than most. To be honest, Gage was surprised he hadn't been slapped or something as punishment for his crude actions.
"Hello, Avery. It's nice to formally meet you this time." With that, he held out a hand to the boy. The same grin was still plastered to his face as if he were in on another joke that Avery wasn't. That wasn't the case, though. It was just the man's face. There weren't usually times where he wasn't wearing a devious expression. This is probably the reason why he got along better with people who had a sense of humor. If you had none, you and Gage probably wouldn't get along very well. No, because the latter would probably get tired of your idiocy.
But no matter, Avery was cute. That made up for his lack of being able to tell when the prankster was pranking. He supposed he could let it slide, anyway, considering this was the first time the two had officially met in person. Gage didn't really know much about the boy apart from his constant attachment to his partner. He had to admit, he was curious about him. "So.." he started, as if getting ready to begin a conversation.

Where is your boy tonight?
At least the topic of Skylar having left Avery was dropped, after all, it was such a sensitive conversation with the kid. It didn't matter how blatantly obvious that Skylar held little to no interest in Avery other than the fact that he was his Sacrifice(and won't leave him alone). Avery just couldn't see it that way. The idea just didn't connect. He knew that Skylar cared. Deep within his soul...pretty far down...far enough down that it was kept secret ever from Skylar himself. They were a team, and as a result, Skylar was required to care in the child's mind. Oh, such sweet thoughts of innocence. Since when did a sophomore think in such a pathetically adorable way? Someone surely was the odd one out.
At the laugh, Avery didn't seem at all offended, but instead, seemed to have let all past irritations be forgotten, or at the very least put off as a misunderstanding. In response, he merely grinned back in an easy going manner, canine-like tail swaying slightly towards the tip, but not a noticeable amount of movement.
"S'nice to meet you too." No rage, no anger, not at all hesitant. The kid surely did know the meaning of forgive and forget, and it didn't seem likely for him to hold a grudge, no not at all. Someone like Avery normally wasn't up for such a petty thing. Though it didn't take a lot to set him off, it took a shitload of torture to get him to hate you for life.
Gage spoke, trailing off, as though to start something, only to not continue. Hmmm, what could he finish the sentence with? how could he start off the conversation? Bingo. It possibly wasn't the best topic one could discuss, but hey, it was the first thing to come to mind, and Gage had been the one to allow Avery to start off.
"What rank are you? And have you heard anything about your partner...? Sorry about before..." He trailed off a bit, the smile rusting a bit. Someone was felling a tad bit guilty for flipping out over what he had been told was a joke.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

When the red-head caught sight of Avery's tail wagging behind him, he was reminded of a small puppy. Which was what the small boy seemed to be most like, Gage thought, with his innocent personality and cheerful disposition. Even the image of him right now wagging his tail, probably without even meaning to, gave the man that impression. He outwardly gave a small chuckle, even though he knew Avery wouldn't understand what he was laughing about.
"Im a Fighter. I heard that my Sacrifice was here a little while ago, but when they arranged the meeting, they ended up being a no-show. It was kinda upsetting, but I ended up bailing a little while into it anyway," he explained. He left out the part about how he'd been scared to actually meet her. The man always heard about people saying that their lives changed after having met their other half, and he hadn't been sure he was ready for that. But since then, he hadn't heard anything about the other person, or even what gender they were. The only thing he did seem to figure out that day was his true name, Truthless.
"And it's okay. I'm not a blank, so I didn't take much offense to your little comment." He gave the boy a wink and chuckled again, something that seemed to be becoming his trademark action. "Besides, I know I have a partner, I just haven't met them yet." He gave a light shrug and took a quick glance around the cafeteria. What if his other half was here, right now at this very moment? It was certainly a possibility. "So what about you?" he suddenly asked, his attention brought back to Avery.

Where is your boy tonight?
Gage laughed once more, and Avery's ears shifted on top of his head towards Gage, but for the life of him he couldn't figure out what his companion was laughing at. The idea of being a puppy, as Gage had thought, wasn't shared, because of course, Avery couldn't see himself. Instead, he took this as just a random outburst. He does that a lot. The thought made him widen that grin that basically resided on his face.
"Your Sacrifice didn't show?" A bit of a frown masked that almost perpetually existent smile, and tail stopped it's movement, "That's kind of cold." The comment Astrid had made to him just the other day, the one about her ditching her meeting with her Fighter didn't quite hit him. Besides, he didn't think that Astrid was the type to be that cruel. "You had every right to leave if your Sacrifice didn't show. Why wait? They should have been there." Voice wasn't angry per say, though far from happy, and a tad bit too negative to be neutral.
"Still, it wasn't nice of me to say." Oh, such a childish boy, feeling guilty about a comment that would generally be considered unoffensive(even if it was obviously intended to aggravate) to those that weren't Blanks.
"And a Sacrifice who's known my 'true name' and Fighter since Sixth Grade, and a Zero." It was okay to mention being a Zero, right? He hadn't really told anyone yet, but it just hadn't come up. There wasn't an unspoken rule or something somewhere, hopefully. If so, he'd just broken it. Whoops. "And...ummm...yeah..." Those last few words were a tad bit awkward. What else was he supposed to say? He'd already brought up his name earlier. He was just filling in the blank spaces.
He'd ignore the winks and laughter, marking it as just what Gage did for now. Unless given a reason to rethink such a thing, he'd only be confused if Gage wasn't chuckling all over the place.
I hope he is a gentlemen.

Gage gave a light shrug when Avery called the former's sacrifice's actions cold. He didn't really mind too much. At least he knew his other half was here on campus somewhere, right? Right. And that's all that mattered. They were here, and he would get to meet them eventually. That was the whole point really, was to meet up with them when you least expected it. He wasn't really happy with the idea that someone had planned their meeting, but he couldn't deny that he'd been curious about the whole thing. Besides, what else was he supposed to do? "I don't think that's the case. Maybe they were scared." He said, and then grinned hugely. "I can imagine why they would be."
The red-head chuckled when Avery said he felt bad. "Well I'm not a Blank, so I'm not offended." He said, speaking in a matter-of-fact manner. He knew Avery had just said that because he was angry for what Gage had said to him. So he didn't mind, Gage did start it, after all. He supposed he deserved it.
However, he was honestly surprised when Avery claimed he was a Zero. "Seriously?" he asked, suddenly more interested in their conversation. "So you can't, like...feel pain and shit?" he asked, wording the sentence rather crudely, but he figured his point would get across regardless. He found it hard to believe that this kid who got so angry so quick, was actually a Zero. Weren't they supposedly created or something? Gage never paid attention to the details.
