Or not...
Hours earlier, a very attentive and absurdly lonely Avery had buried himself in a multitude of books, notes, papers, homework, printouts, and whatever else he could possibly get a hold of that was school related. The unorganized pile of random papers had been splayed before him on a table in the back corner, and he leaned over them, elbows on the too-short coffee table, head drooping over and reading information, then quickly scribbling it down.
It was quite easy to see who had been procrastinating these past few days. Oh well, as long as he got it done, and it looked nice, it didn't really matter how long it took him to accomplish finishing it. Put it off until the last minute, then smash through it all at once, and somehow manage to get a good grade. Avery had a mighty fine strategy for getting his work done, now didn't he?
"Arrrrnnnggggghhhh." The low-pitched whine, hardly heard by anyone else in the room, was the sound of his brain melting. So much to do, no time at all to accomplish finishing it. Oh well, Avery had dug his own grave. Time to climb back out.
His hand was moving rather quickly over the pages as he scrawled in answers and wrote essays. Time was escaping him entirely. Sad, irritated boy was far too caught up in his work to notice the time. Or the other children as they slowly went to their rooms until he was finally the last one in the common area. For once, he didn't notice loneliness.
Two down, and one to go. His eyelids were beginning to droop. Had they always felt so heavy? He didn't think so. They shouldn't have at the very least. Avery didn't recall having this much trouble re-opening his eyes after blinking during class. Hmmm...
His tired mind didn't quite register that it had ever fallen asleep. It was a fast thing. He just took a second to blink, half way through his final paper, and just didn't open his eyes. The kid was out cold, slumped head first into the coffee table, bright blue hood draped over his head, pale brown ears barely poking through the edges.
The boy was out cold. He didn't even notice when the lights turned off after half an hour of inactivity.
Dog-like tail curled around his form slumped forward form, arms outstretched in front of him, and head firmly planted in the table. It couldn't have been comfortable. It was a guarantee that he was going to wake up sore tomorrow, sleeping like that.
It wouldn't be for at least an hour until Avery woke up, a bit of drool leaking from his mouth, his head groggy. Where the hell am I? Kid didn't quite remember going to bed. What had happened?
He was working on his papers. He remembered that clearly. Most of them had been finished; just one left. He had been working...and working...and working, and oh shit! Realization hit 'im like a brick.
The kid shot up, sitting back against the couch, and the lights shot on, hurting his eyes which weren't at all adjusted to the light. "Ack!" He hadn't been expecting that.
After taking a few minutes to get used to the light, boy decided to look at the table and see the damage done to his work. Not too bad. Papers were just scattered everywhere, and a few of his notes were bent, presumably from moving arms.
"Guess I better start cleaning up...and then I can finish." How far past curfew was he? Oh well, it didn't matter. He was technically in the building, and his dorm was right upstairs. It wasn't like he was out and about, running around like a savage.

He was never one for staying up pasted curfew. Homework was an exception, but it was not like he ever had the 'procrastination bug' like many others. No, his day was wake up, get dressed, eat, go to his classes, go back to the dorms, work on homework, and then goof off until curfew. How else would you get grades as high as his?
A sigh escaped from the boy's lips as he strolled through the dark hallway, midnight black tail flicking back and forth. Oh, right, back to the reason he was up so late. He really just could not sleep! He did not have insomnia, so the lack of sleep was rather rare for him. Heck, sleep was his favorite 'subject'. The young Sacrifice could sleep for a whole month if the academy would allow him to. Lifting a pale hand up to cover his mouth, a soft yawn made itself known. Yawning meant he was tired, but his eyes wouldn't stay closed for more than a few minutes. What a night this was going to be...
The blond let his hand fall to his side, brushing up against the soft pajamas his mother had made sure to stuff into his bag before he left for the academy. For such a low income, his mother sure spent a lot of it on him. The blue pajamas with dark blue paw prints were pretty simple, but he knew the prices these days were insane. You just have to love inflation... Valentin ran a hand through his blond hair, careful of his ears, blinking a few times when he did not feel the usual ponytail in the back of it. It took his mind a few moments to click things into place. Oh right... He had taken out the ponytail, like always, before climbing into bed, only to find that he couldn't sleep. It seems like he just forgot to put it back in.
The freshman grumbled something about his 'forgetful memory' when he walked into the boy's dorm Common Area. It was dark for a second before the lights flashed back on, causing the boy to blink multiple times to let his eyes adjust to the light. How he had gotten there without running into walls and doors in the dark before was beyond him. The German boy scanning the Common Area, his eyes landing on another student who seemed to have fallen asleep while doing homework. Well, that was just what he assumed, seeing how there were papers everywhere. Like the intelligent being he was, the boy just kind of stood there awkwardly, staring at the other student--an upperclassmen he presumed. Hm... Hadn't he seen him in a class of his? He does take a lot of the higher courses, for the normal ninth grade ones were just too easy for him.

"Errgggg." The irritated noise left the boy's mouth as he frowned at the scattered papers. His back was stiff, that was certain. Had he the ability to feel pain, the kid would've needed a thing of advil. Bending that far forward and falling asleep with your head firmly planted against a wood table? It wasn't all that comfortable.
Avery stretched slightly, trying to alleviate some of the stiffness in his back, but not no avail. Fine, be that way. That didn't change the fact that he still had to finish his papers. And cleaning up his notes.
Avery stood, certainly stiffly, even if moving didn't hurt. Didn't make it comfortable, and made his way around the table to fetch his work. Being groggy, he didn't notice the other student at first, but instead, was picking up the randomly scrambled things before turning his head back over in realization, "Oh, hi!" Voice was nervous and embarrassed but still friendly enough. The kid was rarely angry.
A bit of a tired grin would rest on his face, and attention would move back to the papers, putting them in one big, mixed pile before setting them on the table, and once again standing to face the other, "You looking for something?" Most people weren't out this late in the common area without reason, of course, Avery could be mistaken of course. Just still, it'd be kind of irritating to wake up in the middle of the night an just have an undeniable urge to walk downstairs to the common area just for the hell of.
"I'm Avery, by the way." The other seemed familiar, but being as tired as he was, Avery couldn't be entirely sure whether or not he actually knew the blond boy or not. Eyes would examine the strangely shaded ears and tail; a flat color that didn't match. Interesting. Not that he minded, just such a thing was just an uncommon sight, and the kid's normally scattered mind was made worse with fatigue.
The boy's dog-like tail wagged uncertainly behind him, and he waited for a response, just awkwardly standing there.

Hm... Yup, he has definitely seen him before. But, in which class? He really couldn't remember his schedule at the time being. Maybe he should stop thinking when his mind is half asleep. Wait, if he was half asleep, then why was he standing in the Common Area? Oh, right. Maybe leaving his room to walk around when he certainly was tired was not the best idea in the world.
Black feline ears perked as the other student spoke, bringing him out of his thoughts, thank Gott. He would have gotten lost in his own mind if it weren't for the other's voice. He didn't return the greeting, however, just kind of standing there still. He really was true to his name. Heh, Speechless. He couldn't have been born with a better one. Maybe he should stop thinking and start listening. After all, the upperclassmen was speaking once more. The blond slowly shook his head at the question. He wasn't looking for something, just merely wandering aimlessly until his eyes would stay closed willingly. Hopefully that happened once he returned to his dorm.
Oh, they were already on to names? Avery... Yeah, he's heard that name from somewhere before. He will probably remember it in the morning. Finally, finally, the blond spoke, though it came out hesitant, soft, and in a stutter. "I-I'm Val-Valentin..." Those stutters were a plague, I swear! Slowly, the blond lifted a hand to his mouth, covering it just in time as a yawn forced his mouth open. Hm, walking sure did the trick.
ooc: sickness = lack of muse. DX Sorry late failure-of-a-post.
