The earphones were in now, the music completely drowning out the surrounding world. Baggy sweatpants made little swish sounds as she walked, the legs brushing up against each other. Her sneakers made little sound on the cement as she walked to the gym, heading through the locker rooms. Anna had been on the track team at her old school, back when she wasn't a sacrifice, when she hadn't known her true name. Old habits die hard. It had been programmed into her to run, to run, just to run, whenever she could. Besides schoolwork, Anna was basically working out, just for something to do - at least, when she wasn't with her fighter. The teen was a happy girl, always looking forward to doing something, to perfecting some sort of a project or idea.
Heading up from the locker room, where she had changed into shorts and set her bag down, Anna was in the gym. Her shoes squeaked on the floor. But it was warm in here, warm enough that she had no goosebumps, unlike the outside. She had a little while to burn until dinner was served. Seeing as it was a Tuesday, there was little to do. The students had to wait until the weekend rolled around to leave the campus via the shuttle bus. Until then, Anna filled her time by running, generally keeping in shape by using the gym. However, upon rounding the corner, she was surprised to see another student here. He was tall, far taller than her. He towered over Anna, and she couldn't help but feel a little jealous of him. "Oh.. I didn't know you were using the gym. Is it okay if I join?" she asked, not wanting to be rude. "I didn't mean to intrude," she said, smiling shyly. It just wasn't the way Anna was, to be rude or invasive.

Woah, Mona Lisa
Tall boy with perfectly cropped, large white canine ears perked. It was strange to encounter such a character exercising in the gym; Sky usually quite timid exercising in public. In his hands, he held large, thick weights, of which he had been using vigorously, and with much ease. It was clear to say he was one of the athletic types, though he preferred to exercise somewhere where he would be left alone.
On those rare occasions, when some other human being did come in, he would do his best to drown out their existence with the thick, neon green headphones around his neck. Skylar was dressed as he usually would for exercising; bare torso with his black jeans in place. upon hearing the door open, he would freeze, if only for but a moment. Zero would look timidly to the door, the usually nonchalant face of his gone for a split second. Upon seeing this girl, this young woman, open the door, he relaxed. Then, she spoke to him. Ruby scanned said girl, and he responded.
"Ah. Sure." Sky was perplexed. He hardly was spoken to; having a cold and unwelcoming personality could be a bit hard to want to communicate with. But that was completely understandable. "Not a bother at all."
I'd pay to see you frown.

Although Anna had arrived to work out, just get a nice jog in, it would be silly for her to squander such an opportunity with the guy in front of her. She smiled, happy to see that he didn't really care about her staying. It was a public place, but she could feel just how odd it was to find someone else here to work out with. Anna, although for the most part very social, didn't like to run with others. Well, with other people watching. Okay, she needed to fix that again. With people she wasn't too familiar with watching while she was alone. Well, that was specific. Anna just hated the look, that awkwardness that seemed to encompass such an action. Although she could have gone to the stadium or run around outside, Anna was happy enough to run inside, where it was warm. Her ear buds were in, but the volume had been lowered. Anna took an easy three laps around the gym, her breathing easy and well balanced. She hadn't really had the chance to just relax, but this sort of physical workout was what the sacrifice rather enjoyed. However, her eyes continually wandered over toward the guy, tall and with white ears. She bit her lower lip, slowing down to stop her warm up laps at an easy time.
Anna walked over to him, a good portion of her legs showing as she went to talk to him. It was fun to watch how his muscles moved as the weights did, how much strain his muscles could take for now. Her warm brown eyes watched his movements, observant and yet politely waiting for him to finish his sets before giving him a small smile. "Have you been here a lot? Every time I come here in the evenings, it's really been just me." Except for the one straggler who just decided to check out the gym or who came to keep her company, Anna hadn't seem anyone else here, at least not while she was. Her tail curled up, long and cat like, while her ears gave a small flick of interest.

The boy could be nonchalant in almost every way; returning her smile with a small smile. Smiles were foreign to his face, usually being awkward and forced. Skylar was a Zero, genetically created for fighting. He was a strange one, this sophmore; raised on strict rules with no time for humor. It was only logical that he wouldn't crack jokes or laugh, right? Hopefully. Sky lifted the weights with ease, gaze flicking back and forth between the mirror in front of him, and his shoes. It was so strange, so unnerving to be watched. Usually, he was like a big ghost in the back of the classrooms, but he always managed to get in trouble one way or another. Whether the crime was burning himself again, not being able to feel pain, but still feeling that horrible pulling in his chest to try, or some other sick way of injuring himself.
One of his strangest methods was provoking other students, curious as to how they would proceed. Most backed down, but some were curious as well, and took him on.
Really, it hadn't been challenging. His body exceeded and failed in two different ways. One, he had no limit, no pain to tell him he was nearing his breaking point. The other was that it greatly weakened him, giving him no warning when he was dying or not. He wouldn't have known what had hit him. The life of a Fighter Zero was dangerous, but even more so for a Sacrifice.
Snapped out of his idle thoughts, he turned to face the girl behind him.
"A lot? Hm, not really. I like to exercise at home. I... I find being stared at very, uh," He searched for a word. "... unnerving." That much was true. Honestly, he hadn't even noticed her looking at him, too encompassed by his thoughts at the time.
I'd pay to see you frown.

For all that Anna was worth, even if her life depended on it, she could not tell that Skylar was a zero. It was a new world to her, and although she knew what one was, the young woman just didn't know who was and wasn't. She didn't want to judge, and preferred to just accept things and people for the way they were. Why would she try to change them? Why should she?
Her smile was gentle and easy going, a bit less bright and cheery than before. But this one was more understanding, a bit easier to connect with than its predecessor. She was listening to him, although it was a couple of sentences. Anna wanted to make friends, and a work out buddy would always be nice. "I understand what you mean. I get weird looks when I run on the grounds.. it's like no one here has ever seen another person go jogging before." It was true, though- Anna had gotten stares. maybe it was because of the way she ran, or for the simple fact that she was running at all, the teen wasn't too sure on that. Sacrifices were usually the ones who took all the pain, so it was rare to see them working out and the like. But Anna liked to feel the burning of lactic acid in her leg muscles, to know that she had stretched herself to her limit for the day, that she would be sore for class afterwards. "I'm Anna, sacrifice of Ageless," she introduced herself. "You look like you work out a lot, are you sure you aren't lying to me?"

He turned away from her, putting the weights back down properly on their rack. White-haired boy cracked his fingers, and returned back to facing her. Bright red eyes were wary; Sky rarely had friends at all throughout his life. Sure, he was friendly in a Skylar way with a lot of people, but that was about as exciting as he got. Sometimes, even Avery could get him to smile a little, just a little, if he did something ridiculously stupid.
Other than that, he was a very dull person, even without trying.
"Yeah, It's not like we stare when they play sports or go swimming."
Blinking upon her introduction, he had to consider. Would he introduce himself as a Zero, or just Avery's Fighter? Might as well.....
"Hello, Nice to meet you, Anna. I'm Skylar, Fighter of Paradoxal." He furrowed his brows slightly before continuing, "A Zero."
I'd pay to see you frown.

The girl still had that easy going sort of smile on her face. Some people had a favorite pair of shoes they always wore; well, Anna wore her lips curved upward almost all the time. there was nothing for her to really be sad about. She was friendly, happy to just be here. However, Anna did pick up on how wary he was, perhaps that was because the albino was just that way? Some people she knew were just overly cautious. "Exactly! Guys can throw a football around, but when someone does something by themselves it's a whole other story," she added.
Pleased that he too had introduced herself, she smiled a bit more. He was an ice guy, just quiet. Polite but not entirely the kind that would go out of their way.. He reminded her of Alex. "Nice to meet you." She bit her lip. That name had rung a bell, Paradoxal.. and then there was Avery.. Avery, yes, that was it. He was the younger boy that had looked so sad the other day. She had shared chocolate and they had made plans to go to Ashporte in the future. "Oh! I know Avery! He spoke about you the other day." She didn't even register that he was a Zero. Well, yes, that was interesting, but Anna didn't really care much for that. He couldn't change that, neither could she. For all the sacrifice knew, he might have enjoyed that. Zeroes didn't know anything else but that. "Is that why you work out? Or is it just something to pass the time?"

A closed-mouth 'heh'. Sky was a bit of a strange boy, he was. It was almost impossible to read his mind, his pokerface reigning supreme over everyone and everything. So far. His life effected his brain in a unique way, his thoughts moved in strange loops and turns, similar to neverending dominos.
A nice guy? He was, sort of. He was a rebel, a cold, but not exactly mean. He was.. reserved. Quiet. Timid? No, not exactly. Skylar rolled his eyes at the mention of his Sacrifice. "He talks about me all the time. You'll get sick of that soon." Was being a Zero good? Perhaps. It obviously made Sky a more dangerous fighter, and Ave a more tolerent Sacrifice. But, aside from this, it could also weaken them. The Zero boys could not feel any type of pain, which is good and bad. Good, they can continue on mercilessly. Bad.. They would not feel the pain as a warning symbol of their lives. "Oh.. I work out here because I might as well, I suppose. I can always make more room for inprovement as a Fighter, and... It's sort of a hobby. I don't have a whole lot of things to do nowadays, so I end up coming here. You?"
I'd pay to see you frown.

The way it was for Zeroes, Anna assumed, was the same for people who were allergic to certain foods. Because they had never experienced the food (or in a certain case, sensation), they had nothing to miss or yearn for. However, this was a more serious matter, simply because something that was so harmless could now be used against them, could seriously damage the Zeroes. Ana flexed her fingers, enjoying the way that it felt. Pain was something that Anna never thought twice about until she became a sacrifice. "But that's cute. He's infatuated with you, Skylar. Really, he adores you." There was an easy smile on her face, though her lips were curled up just a bit more than usual. It was deviously disarming at times. Well, the pair was stuck together until the end, which hopefully wouldn't be in battle.
It was interesting though, to hear his reasons. He was cute, in that almost albino foreigner sort of way. "I come here to keep in shape. It's more like a reflection session for me, just to think about what's going on." She grinned. "I think that's great that you're trying to improve. Most people just use battles as practice. Though, in all honesty, I can't see anyone wanting to hurt Avery. He's too sweet."

The way it was, however, was the unfair feeling of being left out. It was a horrible feeling; one where you knew you were missing something, and aimlessly tried to get it, no matter how futile it was. To someone else, it might have been an amazing thing. To Avery and Skylar? Not quite.
"Cute? It might have been cute four years ago, but not anymore." A hand met his forehead, and he let out a frustrated sigh. Avery was like personified gorilla glue, But he never wore off. Ever.
He would nod slightly at her reasons, dragging his hand off his face. Tall boy almost squirmed under her grin. "Thanks. But you never know, Avery could have some nemesis lurking somewhere in the school. .. Actually, probably not, but it's be interesting." Someone may end up strangling the kid for being so kind. What Sky left out, however, was that Ave was... different when it came to battling. He was.. interesting, at the very least. Combat Avery was the reason Skylar put up with Avery way back when...

There was a small nod of the head in understanding as the smile drifted away. Well, she couldn't blame him for getting annoyed with someone who was constantly worried and obsessing over him. Anna wouldn't be able to stand that should Evee do that to her- in fact, she'd probably have a habit of ditching the girl, which was probably what Skylar did every now and then. Gah. She bit her lip when he threw his hand to his forehead, the poor guy. "I don't think he means anything by it," Anna said, now feeling bad that she had brought up their relationship. She was probably making the workout session more like an emotional sort of thing for him.
Anna actually laughed when Skylar suggested a nemesis, secretly waiting to strike out at the kid. "No, no, definitely not! I don't think anyone would have the guts to hurt him. It'd be pitiful to hurt Avery." She had caught onto the idea that there was something missing that the fighter hadn't included, but then again, Anna wasn't going to intrude. "Although, with your sacrifice, I'm sure that if someone battled you it would be a beat down." For all the Avery was - immature, somewhat annoying, bees for brains - he had a good heart and a strong will.

She was right. He didn't mean anything by it. But you know, it was better if he did. Some sort of.. menace. He made a face that might have even been seen to be considered comical. But, Sky shook it off, and making a chuffing, almost laughing sound to go with hers, and offered a sight smile.
"Maybe it's a sin to fight Ave, or something. Dayum."
"A beat down? Definately."

The awkward words were definitely worth seeing Skylar smile just for that one instant. It was simply contagious. "You're fierce. I shouldn't be saying this, but it wouldn't be the best idea to face off against you two..." Anna let the thought go, the last syllable hanging on the air in the gym, between the two opposites. Anna was sure that he loved his sacrifice. She knew some pairs that loathed each other, but this seemed to be more of a tolerance sort of thing. Smirking, Anna said, "Are you entering the contest?" At this point, her smirk was now a smile. "Even if we got knocked out of the tournament, it would be worth seeing you fight."

Skylar was such an awkward boy, that was for sure. Shuffling his feet, he looked around the room. He wasn't used to praise. Sure, I mean, Avery praised Skylar and boasted about him all the time, but it wasn't exactly the kind of thing you really acknowlege anymore. His words were normal, but his body actions showed how strange it was for him. "Thanks. And it's good thinking to keep out of our combat." He huffed twice, something that could have been laughter again, but really wasn't. "Constest? Naw. We were kicked out last year when we amost ripped this one kid's arm off. ..... If you wanna see us fight, I'd let you know if we ever face off another gang or 'somthin. How's that sound?" Such sick entertainment he went for.

There was a definite sense of disappointment about Anna when she learned that the Zeroes would not be fighting. Damn. She would have really loved to see those two in action, considering their personalities and abilities. Yet, at the same time, the young woman laughed softly as he spoke of getting kicked out of the tournament. "I'm sure it wasn't entirely your fault.. the sacrifice should have withdrawn. I mean, I am prideful, but I'd rather lose a fight than my arm." As though for emphasis, Anna gave it a small wiggle. "That sounds interesting.. though by the time I got there, I'm sure the battle would have already been over." She was confident in his abilities - how else would the Zero have been so successful? Yes, a little bit odd, but there was an air about Skylar when it came to the thought of fighting that the teen would not want to be up against. Her feet gave a small shuffle, even as she peered around the gym for a moment. It was odd, really, to have such a large space for only two people. "Do you not like to smile?" she asked him. For Anna, that was pretty much as straightforward as she got.
