I know I've mentioned this in a PM, but I really can't get over this. I understand the issue with characters being unbalanced, but you can use bans or even give people a deadline to get a partner! Or, as I've used on a site that also used a partner system, put in a profile if they want to have admins pick a partner for them or not. It's overly controlling if you force a partner on a member, especially if they may not like the person or the character. And what about people who join with a friend and want to be partners with them? I'm not going to lie, but if I'm forced to partner with someone I don't want to be partners with, I'm going to lose muse faster than you can count to three. And partners are a huge thing on this site, so it's incredibly counterproductive if people are paired up with people they don't even want to plot with.
I think you should really give people the option of having staff pick their character. If people are fine with it being randomized, let them say so!

I'm sorry, but I'm not really budging on this. ^^;
I chose this for quite a few reasons, the first being the fact in Loveless, if you're paired with someone you don't like, you get over it. It can create tension, and open up new options for character relationships and player-driven plots. Not everyone's gonna like their partner, it's just a fact of life in the Loveless manga, and something here.
A second reason is that in order to encourage people to RP more, there's the ability to buy your own partner. If there's nothing available in the shop, the money system's not worth having. It's a motivation so to speak.
