Dear Diary,
I'm almost glad I left home. I don't really know though. There are so many kids here... kids like me I guess. Karen and Danny brought me two days ago, and they'd wanted to tour but I convinced them not to. It would have been awkward and besides, they know I wanted to be alone. I kind of spaced out during the orientation thing, but I got the gist of it. From what they told me -- I'm a fighter unit... though I don't think they've figured out my team member yet.. my sacrifice.
The idea of that frightens me, to have to protect another like I couldn't protect mom. It seems her death is all I can think about recently, of course... dad killed her eight years ago as of yesterday. So.. it's been heavy in my mind. I can't help but compare that to losing this 'sacrifice' that I'm supposed to get. What happens if I'm horrible at this fighter unit thing and my sacrifice is disgusted with me? What happens if I decide I don't want to do this?
Yeah, I accepted the school letter myself. I can do that -- since I technically emancipated myself when I turned sixteen. I live with my 'parents' but legally I'm an adult. I pay taxes man. Anyway -- I accepted the letter because really Wrightsville's been pretty suffocating lately and this school year would have been a bad one. But... once I got here I found out about this... and I can't say I'm excited.
I don't know what will happen, and that makes me nervous.
