By quickly glancing around the site, you have most likely realized that though similar to our world, the one that Heartless takes place in is very different as well. It has come to the attention that this may confuse people who are not quite familiar with the Loveless anime or manga, and as a result, this section was created to allow everyone a chance to understand the workings of this world.
Inside this thread you will find basic information about the world's people and information on spell battles, two things that are both extremely important for the roleplay. Please read everything within carefully to avoid confusion in the future, and if anything is poorly worded, feel free to bring it up with the admins so that they may address the issue, and fix it.

In the world that Heartless takes place in, three kinds of people exist. One of them, Fighters, are powerful people capable of casting spells through the words they speak, though typically owned by a sacrifice. Sacrifices are the target in all battles. They typically command and control their Fighter; telling them whether or not to defend, and telling them how to win. Lastly, there are the mundane people who are entirely oblivious to this world of fighting that takes place all around them.
Heartless takes place in a school located in the countryside of Pennsylvania which specializes in training teams of Sacrifices and Fighters. Competitions, tournaments, and practice battles are quite common on the grounds, and the school is known as being one of the best of it's kind.
-----
At birth, a person is assigned their 'true name'. Only one other person is ever given this name, and this would be the other member of their team. On occasion, people are not given a true name. These people are called 'Blanks' and can act as wild cards.
A blank can be on any team, and they are generally used to fill the space left when a teammate dies. In order for a blank to be able to be claimed by a team, the person looking to claim the blank must carve his or her team name onto the blank's body in a way that it will scar.
-----
In manga and anime, there is a kind of genetically altered person called a 'Zero'. Zeros were named this for their inability to feel pain and temperature, which while making them the perfect fighter, always greatly weakens them, since they cannot feel their body's limits and their body cannot adjust to the temperature. All Zeros made, in the manga and anime, had the team name of 'Zero', just like their scientific name.
In Heartless, which takes place a few years after Loveless, a few changes have been made to Zeros' genetic coding. They can now feel extreme temperatures to some degree; a small warning sign, and now, not all of their teams go by the name of 'Zero'. Instead, much like average teams, they are all original.
An example of their ability to feel extreme temperatures is that if one were to stick their hand into a fire, they may feel as though someone was blowing hot air on their hand. Another example of this would be if temperatures were to be in the negatives, a Zero would be able to feel as though a gentle breeze was blowing on their skin. This, being a major change from their usually temperature-numb body, is normally enough to startle them into moving somewhere else, making them harder to kill.
Zeros, due to their inability to feel pain, seem to have a strange obsession with it. Many self-harm merely out of curiosity, and it's not at all uncommon for Zeros, as children, to permanently maim themselves due to a lack of ability to tell that they are harming themselves. This tends to make them weaker than the normal human Fighter and Sacrifice pairing in some ways.
The Zeros were created by the infamous Nagisa Sagan, a scientist of sorts, who had created this new subspecies of human out of scratch. Although it may be hard to grasp that the childish and very immature 30-year old woman created these brutal, vicious beings, it is very much true. She even gave her Zeros the same last name of her; mentionably 2nd Generation Natsuo and Youi Sagan.

In this world, pairs of Fighters and Sacrifices fight with something called 'Spell Battles', but often quoted as 'a battle of spells'. Upon entering a spell battle, which one must accept to continue, the Fighter attacks with, quite simply put, spells. The Fighter's role in a battle is to use attacks to protect their Sacrifice at all costs. To a Fighter, their Sacrifice is their reason for living, therefore making them subjected to things such as acting as humanoid pets. In a battle, all damage is to be directed towards the Sacrifice, which could be seen as a motivation to fight for the Fighters.
Popular methods of attack are chains and collars, often tightening to the point of suffocation, etc. These spells can be broken quite easily by a highly powered spell, or even a physichally strong person. Upon other attack methods, there are offensive moves, and defensive moves. Offensive moves could be things like dropping temperatures, cancelling out shards of glass with other shards of glass (Though that could also be considered defensive as well). A definsive move could be barriers or forcefields, or even things found in the setting, such as a mass of school supplies if the battle was in a classroom. The posibilites are endless, but please try to be logical about what you attack/defend with.
